I sympathise, but not too much :) because TT2 is what I use and is one
of the main reasons I want to try Maypole.

No, I don't like to do that. The whole point of tests is to make sure
something is working. If you force it, you have no idea what you've just
installed and when it's going to break.
I just find another package if I can't resolve failures.
