I agree with Tony. I see several problems with IRC:
- no archive, so whatever wisdom is expressed is immediately lost again.
- in some jobs and/or situations it simply isn't practical to
continually monitor groups in real-time
- Maypole presently is a small group with a strong European focus but as
it grows so will the community and Asians and Americans need to be able
to learn and contribute. It isn't sensible to try to hold a global
community to a single time pattern.
- Maypole presently has two mailing lists, a wiki, a documentation set
(is it down to one of those now? there used to be two), and IRC. These
are too many methods of publishing information and are very confusing
for newcomers in particular.

I think that *should* be a pre-requisite :) There should certainly be a
single set of documentation and a single mailing list. Any more than
that needs careful thought, and IMHO divides and weakens the community.
