I've just got back from work and it's been a long day so I might not be able
to send more code tonight. I put some effort into the patch and code sample I
sent yesterday so it would be helpful, before I send more code, if you could
briefly explain:

1. What was wrong with the code sample I sent yesterday?
2. What code do you want to see? More usage of exceptions or how exception
handling is handicapped and awkward in Maypole?
3. What's wrong with my proposed patch and why do you think it is "overkill"?

I assume it's not the implimentation you object to, but the idea that
exceptions should bubble up to the controller if untrapped by the model?

Don't get me wrong, IRC is great, but I think it's of limited use for this
sort of thing. There are over 700 emails in the mailing list archives. Every
single one is a piece of valuable documentation. Useful documentation for the
maintainer, contributors and users of Maypole. It's a knowledgebase, publicly
searchable by anyone. It has answers to lots of common questions. There are
examples of people putting Maypole to use in different ways. There are
discussions of ideas, features and extensions; with reasons why some features
were added and why some were rejected.

If I didn't value that, I'd email you directly or join the IRC channel. But I
do value the list and I think others do/will too. That's why I send my ideas
to the lists - so other users past, present and future can think about these
things and offer their ideas.

I don't expect every patch or idea to be accepted. But it's good to know what
the objections are, and I'm not just talking about myself here. Someone else
might come along in 6 months and propose another patch to support exception
handling, and you might think "We talked about it a while ago and rejected the
idea, but I can't remember why".
